白宮的菜園

今天是春分-春天的開始日
今天過後本地霜降的可能性微乎其微
每年我都是在春分後將菜苗移植到菜圃
白宮今天舉行菜圃破土典禮
將開闢1100 square-foot的菜圃
經由廚房選出55種蔬果
計劃種植的水果有berries
各式各樣的調味香草如anise hyssop and Thai basil
煮墨西哥菜必備的cilantro,hot and sweet pepper,tomatilllos
蔬菜有arugula,chard,collard, kale,fennel, rhubarb,lettuce and spinach
瓜類有squash, cucumbers
還會有蜂巢取蜂蜜
買菜籽和mulch等等才花$200
上一次白宮開闢菜園是在二次大戰時的Victory Garden
現在Victory Garden的風潮再起
有人稱之為Community Garden
也有人稱之Recession Garden
不論是為環保為建康或是經濟實惠
自闢菜園種菜的人正在增加中
白宮的開闢菜園自有其正面意義
